About Cyprus

Cyprus is situated at the eastern end of the Mediterranean basin. Third largest of all the Mediterranean islands, after Sicily and Sardinia, its area is 9,251 square kilometres, stretching 240 km, from west to east and 96 km from north to south. The island's population is approximately 800,000

Cyprus has a Mediterranean climate. No matter what time of the year, it is always warmer than northern climates.

Today Cyprus is a modern country that effortlessly marries European culture with ancient enchantment.

Here you will discover a compact world of alluring beaches and fragrant mountain peaks, vineyards studded with olive trees and ancient ruins that stir the imagination, citrus groves and old stone villages where sweet wine flows as freely as conversations at the local café.

The weather is fantastic, the scenery stunning, with some glorious beaches, the nightlife is excellent and Cypriots even drive on the left and speak English. Cyprus is now one of the more sophisticated islands in the Mediterranean, attracting tourists from all over the world who come not only for the sunshine but also to see its many historic sights. The remnants of many past civilisations can be seen here and legends and myths abound, while nature lovers can delight in the island’s beauty from the varied scenery of its coastline to the pine-clad hills of the interior.

Cyprus offers visitors an opportunity for fun and relaxation, as well as a chance to get to know its culture and taste its traditionally warm hospitality.

The people of Cyprus are traditionally warm and welcoming and consider a visit to their island as a compliment - one that's repaid with genuine hospitality, summed up in the Greek word Philoxenia: Friendship towards the guest. Their naive tongue is Greek, but English is readily spoken in all the shops, restaurants and hotels - in fact just about everywhere. In a world of ever-increasing violence, Cyprus has a remarkably low crime rate, and from just one visit to the Island the visitor can understand why.

A carefree place where a sense of timelessness is magnified by the kindness of the people.
